What You Need to Know

Here are a few things you need to know if you’re planning to get married in St Vincent and the Grenadines:

  • The marriage ceremony must be performed by an official marriage officer, priest or minister registered in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

  1. Licence: either a ‘Governor-General Licence’ or ‘Registrar’s Licence’. The licences are valid for a period of three months after the date of issue:

    Governor-General Licence Residency: Non-Vincentians – If both parties are non-nationals, at least 24 hours before applying; Vincentian Nationals – if either party is Vincentian this does not apply. Cost: EC$525.00/US$194

    Registrars’ Licence Residency: NonVincentians – If both parties are non-nationals, at least 15 days before applying; Vincentian Nationals – if either party is Vincentian this does not apply. Cost: EC$15.00/US$6. The licence is publicly posted for seven (7) consecutive days before the date of marriage.

  2. Documents: Vincentian Nationals – Vincentian Birth Certificate or Vincentian Passport only Non-Vincentian National – Passport * Original and copy of Decree Absolute (if either party is divorced) * Original and copy of Death Certificate (of former spouses if deceased) * If the aforementioned documents are not originally in English, they must be accompanied by translated certified copies.

  3. E-License Marriage Application: The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) has completed the development of an online application to facilitate Special Marriage License process in St. Vincent & the Grenadines.

  4. Marriage licences may also be applied for in person at:

MARRIAGES

Religious Marriages – Persons wishing a religious marriage ceremony should contact the relevant church in St Vincent and the Grenadines to ascertain their requirements.

Civil Marriages Performed by Registrar – After obtaining licence, return to the Marriage Clerk at the Registry High Court, – Give the date for marriage, – Marriage by Registrar is done at cost of EC$150/US$56 – Two (2) witnesses on the day of marriage.

Marriages at Chosen Location

Marriages can be performed by the Registrar, a Justice of Peace, a Public Officer or the Deputy Registrar of the High Court at your chosen location. Please contact the Marriage Clerk at the High Court for further arrangements.
