National Heroes & Heritage Month

This celebrates the recognition of persons who have made a significant contribution to St Vincent & the Grenadines (SVG). It also acknowledges traditional and historical elements that contribute to the Vincentian way of life. Every year on National Heroes Day (March 14th), the rural community of Fancy comes alive with the Garifuna Cultural and Culinary Festival. The Garifuna, an Afro-Amerindian group, is one of SVG’s indigenous peoples. Their dynamic heritage is a mirror of their ethnic diversity which they aptly demonstrate in their food. With various offerings of Cassava bread, Cassava cereal, Madungo, Doukona, Toumalay sauce, this festival is a palatable way to experience the Garifuna culture.
