Earth Day Celebrations At Richmond

earth_dayOn Sunday 22nd April one billion people around the globe will participate in Earth Day activities and film footage from St Vincent and the Grenadines will be part of the United Nations film to be shown that day at the Richmond Vale Academy, RVA.

A release from the RVA states that this year’s Earth Day will be held under the theme ‘Mobilize the Earth’ and “we will ask individuals, communities, schools, organizations, businesses, and government officials to speak with one voice, one message, and call upon world leaders to embark on the path to sustainability by protecting our planet and investing in the green economy.”

“Since we met in December, we have started the Climate Compliance Conference.  This is a 10 year programme for Earth, for St Vincent where we aim for food, energy and disaster security,” the release stated.

Earth Day is a day each year on which events are held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of the Earth’s natural environment.  The United Nations International Mother Earth Day is now coordinated and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.

The RVA is a registered non profit organization and since 2007, more than 200 international and national students have been trained to do development work in Latin America and Africa.
The Academy currently offers two programmes: The 6 month Climate Compliance Conference and the 18-month Fighting With The Poor Course.

In 2011, RVA entered into a partnership with One World University in Mozambique.  It raises funds through farming of fruits that are processed into juices and sold in the local supermarkets and hotels; through the Academy’s Nature and Hiking Center and through partnerships with organizations, businesses and people wishing to support.
