Final Round Winner 2016 FCCA Poster Competition
The Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture is pleased to announce that Otisha C.S Nichols from the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Girls High School has won the Second Place for the Senior Division in this year’s 2016 FCCA Poster Competition. The Second Place winner will receive a cheque of US$1,500.00 and the school will also receive a cheque of US$1,500.00 from the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association.
The staff of the Ministry congratulates Miss. Nichols and commend the other participants for their effort. Miss. Nichols poster depicted ways in which one can “Reuse, Recycle….. Renew the Caribbean”. Comic strips were used to highlight how persons can take different items from around their homes and the environment such as plastics, old and tattered clothing, bottles and tires in a creative way to reuse and recycle the Caribbean. Additionally, emphasis was placed on how wind energy, solar energy and wave energy could be used to renew the Caribbean.
According to reports from the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association, this year’s poster competition attracted entries from twelve (12) nations. In the Senior Division, Grenada and St Marten place 1st and 3rd, respectively.
The Ministry stands in support with the Florida Caribbean Cruise Association in this effort to promote the 3Rs “Reuse, Recycle….. Renew the Caribbean”. Additionally, the Ministry encourages Vincentians to practice and adopt the principles of the 3Rs as we work together to create a more sustainable tourism industry.
